Barrel Length Velocity Change
The Barrel Length Velocity Calculator allows you to calculate a velocity increase or decrease with a change in barrel length.
Since some manufactures reloading data is for Pistols, this tool would calculate what the approximate increase would be when the same load is used in a rifle or vise versa.
The calculations are based on estimates from a bullet manufacturer who estimates 20 to 30 fps per inch in a rifle and about 50 fps per inch in a handgun.
Not all manufacturers agree on the figures some being more conservative than others, so it is very important to keep in mind that these are only estimates and you should never use anything other than actual load data supplied by the manufacturer.
To use the Barrel Length Velocity Calculator select it from the Advanced Calculations Menu of the Main Window the toolbar or press or press the Shift+F3 keys simultaneously.
Type in the known velocity value and select either rifle, pistol or rifle/pistol depending on if it will be a calculation between two rifles, two pistols or between a rifle and pistol.
Input the barrel length of the known rifle/pistol in the first box then input the new barrel length in the second window. Click the Get Value button.
Your estimated velocity gain or loss will be calculated below the boxes.
To input this new value into the Muzzle Velocity text box of the Main Window simply click on the Export Value button.
Click the Close button to close the Barrel Length Velocity Calculator.
